Eight years ago the CDN logo was created as a self-initiated project to come up with a logo to represent Croydon. Being fully aware as many people are Croydon unfortunately has a bad image and is a no go place in the eyes of many people despite being one of the greenest boroughs in London with a rich history of talent across the arts.
Four years ago, the clothing side of things started with a t-shirt and a slogan. That slogan was ‘Never Mind The Concrete’. A play on words of the Sex Pistols famous album Never Mind The Bollox created by artist Jamie Reid when he met Malcolm Maclaren as a student at Croydon college. The idea was to be defiant; demand people look a little deeper and go beyond what they heard or saw in the papers.
The designs featured throughout the CDN range are inspired by Croydon, many feature some of the photography taken throughout my twelve years visiting different areas of this town. The idea with CDN is to put the area out there in the public domain and allow people with a sense of pride in their area to have something to represent it and change perceptions of the area.
