Fairfield Halls, Park Lane, CR9 1DG
In partnership with community organisations and local residents, we develop dance projects and social events to ignite inclusion, collaboration and leadership. We work with disadvantaged communities such as children with autism and elderly people using the transformational properties of dance to improve the quality of people’s lives. Annually, we engage over 500 disabled and non-disabled people aged 5-95, as artists, participants and audience members, in schools and community settings. We have a programme of dance for health and well-being, a youth company for learning disabled young people and a residency at Fairfield Halls, when we lead dance for disabled and non-disabled adults. We have a professional company, the SLiDE Collective which builds on our experience of bringing professional and non-professional performers together. The collective is mixed ability and intergenerational and the performers have toured work to the Turner Contemporary (Margate), Phoenix Gallery (Brighton) and Fairfield Halls (Ashcroft Theatre).
A short film of some of the many projects SLiDE has led since forming in 2013.
We use creative dance with an emphasis on improvisation to develop independence, leadership, decision making and teamwork in the participants. Our methodology and working processes inspire freedom of expression and our democratic practice gives equal agency to everyone in the room, regardless of their dance experience, ability or communication style. Our approach is simple and straightforward, it requires few words to explain it and it fosters connections and builds relationships between the people who attend.
