Talawa is the UK’s primary Black led touring theatre company. Our work is informed by the wealth and diversity of the Black British experience, through which we create
outstanding work by cultivating the best in emerging and established Black artists.
We invest in talent, develop audiences and inspire dialogue with and within communities across the UK and internationally. By doing so, we enrich the cultural life of all.
Unknown land, new arrivals, boarded doors and a suitcase full of hopes, dreams and aspirations.
Co-created by writer Ryan Cameron and choreographer Jade Hackett, 'The Tide’ explored the narratives and experiences of migration within The United Kingdom whilst holding a mirror to an evolving British culture.
'The Tide' was a Talawa Theatre Company, Greenwich+Docklands International Festival, and Breakin’ Convention co-production supported by Without Walls, and commissioned by Brighton Festival and Greenwich+Docklands International Festival, and was Talawa's first ever show created exclusively for outdoor performance.
The Tide played at a series of FREE performances at festivals in summer 2019.
"an integral – dare I say, unique – part of the new writing ecology in the UK."
